To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel written by Harper Lee.The author wrote the novel based on similiar occurences that happened near her hometown when she was a child.The novel is about a lawyer named Atticus Finch, a widower, living in a small town called Maycomb. As a single parent, Atticus strives to be good role model for his two children Jem and Scout. He teaches them about the importance of honesty, respect and justice. As a lawyer him and his family are pretty much living comfortably compared to the rest of society. Scout is the narrator and talks about the events occuring in her hometown. Her brother and her befriend a boy named Dill that only goes there during the summers. They have an intense curiosity towards their neighbor Boo Radley. Their imagination runs wild when they speak of him their both terrified and curious about him. They both make up and hear stories about him since hes a reclusive living in his home and never leaves it. Another big occurence in the story is the case of Tom Robbinson, a black man accused of rapping a young white woman called Mayella Ewell. Even though the town is against it, and they go as far as calling him a "nigger lover", Atticus agrees to defend Tom Robinson. During the trial Atticus does not permit the children to watch the trial so the kids watch it in secret from a balcony. During the trial its obvious that Mayella and her father, the town drunk, Bob Ewell are lying about the entire situation. What really happened was that Mayella was making advances at Tom and her father found out and badly beat her. Even though all evidence points out that Tom is obviously innocent the
